Job summary

Roanoke-Chowan Community College invites applications for qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses in the PED program, in-person. Adjunct faculty support student learning by delivering high-quality instruction and maintaining accurate academic records in Moodle and Self-Service.

Evening, weekend, and hybrid options may be needed to meet departmental needs. Responsibilities include developing engaging instruction, providing timely feedback, and maintaining accurate attendance and grade records.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the specified discipline, or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in that discipline.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in the field related to PED/discipline.
  • Industry certifications and licenses relevant to the field or CTET/CTE programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned PED courses in alignment with departmental outcomes, accreditation standards, and institutional policies.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction using current teaching methodologies and learning technologies.
  • Provide clear instructions for all assignments and return graded work with meaningful feedback within one week of the due date.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and certify attendance by required deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate grade records in the LMS (Moodle/Campus) throughout the semester.
  • Promote a learning environment that respects diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Report conduct issues following institutional protocol.
  • Drop students per attendance policy, including online expectations.
  • Post syllabi in Moodle and provide printed copies for in-person students.
  • Communicate via college email within 24–48 hours.
  • Submit final grades by deadlines; obtain Dean approval for incomplete grades when needed.
  • Remain on site for the full duration of each scheduled class meeting for in-person classes.
  • Attend scheduled sessions and arrange coverage if absent; submit class makeup documentation as required.
  • Seek Moodle-related technical support from the Director of Distance Learning.
  • Participate in orientation, training, and professional development activities.
  • Uphold FERPA confidentiality.

Teaching assignments may include day, evening, weekend, hybrid, or online courses depending on departmental needs.

  • Teach assigned courses in PED in alignment with departmental outcomes, accreditation standards, and institutional policies.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction using current teaching methodologies and appropriate learning technologies.
  • Provide students with clear instructions for all assignments and return graded work with meaningful feedback within one week of the due date.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records in Self-Service and certify attendance by required institutional deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date grade records in Moodle throughout the semester.
  • Promote a learning environment that respects diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and educational goals.
  • Report student conduct issues that impede instruction following proper institutional protocol.
  • Drop students in accordance with the College’s attendance policy, including online-specific expectations for activity and participation.
  • Post the course syllabus in Moodle and provide printed copies for in-person students.
  • Use only the college-issued email account for all communication with students and employees, responding within 24–48 hours.
  • Submit final grades and required documentation by institutional deadlines; incomplete grades require prior approval from the Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Remain on site for the full duration of each scheduled class meeting [for in-person classes].
  • Attend all scheduled class sessions and notify the supervisor of any absence; arrange appropriate instructional coverage and submit required Class-Makeup documentation when applicable.
  • Contact the Director of Distance Learning for Moodle-related technical support.

Transfer-Level Academic Disciplines: Transfer Courses
  • Master’s degree in Discipline, OR

Applied/Technical Programs: CTE Programs
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Field
  • Relevant industry certifications and licenses
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in Field
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Experience with Moodle, Canvas, or other learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
