Job summary

Illinois Central College in the Agriculture and Industrial Technology Building is seeking an Adjunct Faculty- Machine Tool Instructor to lead the Machine Tool Operation course, with classes Monday and Wednesday mornings beginning in Fall 2026.

The instructor will need expertise in safety, layout and benchwork, speeds and feeds, reading micrometers, and operating a manual knee mill and a manual lathe; Illinois residency is required for hire.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in machine tool tech or related field plus 2000 machinist hours or 10 years experience.
  • Experience with safety, measurement and machine tool operations required.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and coordinate machine tool courses ensuring materials and tools are available and safety standards are met.
  • Follow syllabi and communicate class expectations and schedules.
  • Maintain office hours and assist student success.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve the student experience.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Job Description: Summary

Adjunct instructor needed for Machine Tool Operation course - Monday and Wednesday mornings, starting in the fall semester.

The instructor would need to be proficient in their ability to teach Safety, Layout and Benchwork, Calculations of speeds and feeds, Reading Micrometers, Operation of a manual knee mill, operation of a manual lathe, hole making operations, shop trigonometry, formulas and terms, and handbook applications.

Applicants must be a resident of Illinois at the time of hire.

Essential Functions

Instruct and coordinate courses including lecture and/or lab-based classes ensuring all necessary materials and tools are readily available and that safety standards are met, when appropriate.

Follow syllabi for assigned courses communicating the expectations and schedule for the classwork.

Maintain office hours and availability.

Communicate with students working to ensure student success.

Collaborate with Faculty and Staff to continuously improve and adapt the student experience to meet the needs of the student, community and institution.

Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Bachelor's Degree in Machine Tool Technology, Industrial/Manufacturing Technology, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management OR Associate Degree in Machine Tool Technology, Industrial/Manufacturing Technology, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Management, AND a minimum of 2000 work hours as machinist or manual-machinist OR 10 years' work experience as machinist or manual-machinist.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education.

Experience teaching or training.
