Job Description

Purpose and Scope: The teaching faculty provide learning activities and support to achieve course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and teaching courses within the curriculum to facilitate student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired part-time on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent on system needs. Applications are accepted year-round for part-time teaching. Adjunct teaching is based on student demand. Classes are offered day, evening, and weekend at various times and locations. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Responsibilities
  • Teach Geography courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of material
  • Submit required college reports and forms promptly
  • Utilize a course syllabus following established institutional guidelines
  • Advise students before/after class or by appointment, via electronic communication or other appropriate methods
  • Evaluate student progress toward course objectives and provide timely feedback
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology
  • Ability to engage students with effective learning strategies
Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with potential for light movement such as walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving. No special physical demands required.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Work environment includes a PC workstation, standard office equipment, and discipline-specific equipment as needed
  • Interact with internal and external contacts to fulfill position responsibilities
  • Classrooms and labs are climate-controlled with minimal safety hazards
  • Hours vary by class time; instructors must meet scheduled class times and be available to students outside of class

  • Master's degree in Geography or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Geography
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
