Job summary

Lone Star College-Magnolia Center is seeking an adjunct Environmental Science instructor to teach courses at various times and locations, including evenings and weekends. Responsibilities include developing engaging lessons, using established syllabi, advising students, and maintaining professional relationships with students and the community.

A Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in relevant fields is required, with part-time availability.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Environmental Science courses at various times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons promoting student involvement
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Follows a course syllabus and established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students before/after class or by appointment
  • Evaluates students to measure progress and informs students in a timely manner
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned

Job Description
Purpose and Scope

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide thelearning activities and support that will lead to the achievementof the course objectives and contribute to the educationalenvironment of the college and the community. Primaryresponsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within thecurriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on asemester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of theSystem. Lone Star College accepts application material year-roundfrom qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis.Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. Weoffer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered atvarious times and locations during the academic year. As a rule,adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academicyear.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Teaches Environmental Science courses at a variety of times andlocations
  2. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement andapplication of the material.
  3. Submits required college reports and forms in a timelymanner
  4. Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, followingestablished institutional guidelines
  5. Meets with and advises students either before or after class orby appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriatemethods
  6. Evaluates students to measure their progress in achievingcourse objectives and informs students in a timely manner of theirprogress
  7. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues,and the community
  8. Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  9. Responsible for other reasonable related duties asassigned

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within thediscipline/industry
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or labenvironment with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Hours will vary depending on class time; Instructors arerequired to meet with classes at all scheduled times and beavailable to students outside of class instruction
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in environmentalscience, biology, environmental geology, and/or ecology.
Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
