Primary Responsibility: The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available which complement the teaching process. Faculty members need to be committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. Teaching is the most important role of the faculty, but the needs of our learners are also served when faculty are engaged in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities.

Colorado Mountain College seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. CMC does not conduct research but focuses on excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs. Pre‑requisites For Position (Qualifications Standards)

Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in the specific program or be eligible to be credentialed. Ideal qualifications include:

• Minimum of a master’s degree in the specific subject area or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in a related field.
• One year of full‑time teaching experience, or equivalent, as an adjunct instructor.
• Higher education teaching experience preferred.
• Equivalent or applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Knowledge of pedagogy, teaching experience equivalent to two years, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational skills, general office skills (filing, typing, answering the phone, customer orientation, attention to detail).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to research and effectively analyze data, work independently toward established goals and deadlines.

Essential Duties:

Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include: teaching assigned course load, evaluating courses and assessing student learning, meeting established course, program, and learning outcomes, complying with guidelines and policies, maintaining office hours per established standards, developing rapport with students, assisting with and participating in advising, orientation, and registration activities.

Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and enhance learning. Service activities include campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentoring peers, assisting in assessment activities, program review, student organization participation, recruiting and retention.

• To teach classes as assigned by designated supervisor.
• To prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved course objectives.
• To develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to appropriate supervisor.
• To assist with development of measurable course objectives and plans.
• To develop a relationship with students and staff that is professional and encourages teacher/student communication.
• To maintain accurate course records of students and complete course forms as required.
• Be available for student consultation.
• To assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
• When agreed upon, and as appropriate, to assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance.
• To represent the college in a professional manner throughout the communities and college district by promoting a positive public image.
• To engage in professional development as required for credentialing.

Supervision of the Position

This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee in alignment with discipline deans.

Supervisory Responsibility

The position may supervise student employees. Successful completion of a background check and, when applicable, motor vehicle records report is required. Incumbents will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel, evening, and/or weekend hours may be required.

Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling of objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason, analyze, and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
