Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach engineering courses on an as-needed, part-time basis. The adjunct faculty members will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

Qualified candidates hold a master’s or higher in engineering with two years of engineering experience or a PE license; for ENGR

Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree or higher in engineering from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Technology discipline; two years of work experience in engineering or PE licensure.
  • For ENGR 116: must meet above qualifications or hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology/Technology with two years’ work experience.
  • For ENGR 140 and ENGR 160: must meet above qualifications or hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics with two years’ work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes in engineering and follow the syllabus framework.
  • Provide course syllabus to students and follow content and requirements.
  • Maintain attendance and grading records according to college policy.
  • Be available to students outside scheduled class time to assist and address concerns.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and use technology such as Canvas and PowerPoint.

Job description

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty members will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide course syllabus to students and follow syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to college policy. Submit requested information within established timelines.

STUDENTS: Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions and/or provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program chair to resolve issues.

INSTRUCTION: Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s), notifying program chair of unexpected absences. Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate.

A qualified faculty member in Engineering meets both of the following criteria:

  • Possess an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in an engineering discipline, and
  • One of the following:
    • Two years’ work experience in an Engineering field, or
    • Professional Engineering (PE) License

For ENGR 116: Must either meet the above Engineering qualifications or meet both of the following criteria:

  • Possess an earned baccalaureate degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution, in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a Technology discipline, and
  • Two years’ work experience in an Engineering field

For ENGR 140 and ENGR 160: Must either meet the above Engineering qualifications or meet both of the following criteria:

  • Possess an earned baccalaureate degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution, in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics, and
  • Two years’ work experience in an Engineering field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with/knowledge of:
  • SolidWorks or another parametric modeling software
  • Materials and material processing theory and testing equipment
  • Solving static and dynamic mechanical systems with and without calculus
  • Programming in C++ or MATLAB
  • Circuit theory and design
  • Engineering project design and teamwork
  • Undergraduate teaching experience
