Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne, Indiana invites applications for Adjunct Faculty to teach courses each semester on an as-needed basis. You will deliver instructed content, craft syllabi, and assess student work while maintaining accurate records.

Expect campus-based work using available technology and adherence to FERPA and college policies. The role requires strong knowledge of instructional technologies and credential considerations for communications courses, with responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Master’s or higher in speech or communication from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Master’s with 18 graduate credit hours in speech or communication from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Master’s in secondary education with concentration in speech, and 12 grad credits in speech/communication at 300-400 level.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Develop/maintain course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials; maintain student records and grades.
  • Engage with students in meaningful ways to promote learning and positive experiences at Ivy Tech.
  • Interact professionally with students and co-workers and comply with College policies and FERPA.
  • Ensure knowledge of and implement emergency and safety procedures for classrooms and labs.
  • Other duties as assigned within regulatory requirements.

Job description

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.

Pay: $45.45 per contact hour

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
  • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
  • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
  • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Conducts all activities with an appreciation, respect, and promotion of diversity of people, styles, and views.

Communication Discipline Standard

A qualified faculty member meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

  1. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree in speech or communication, from a regionally accredited institution; or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in speech or communication, from a regionally accredited institution.
COMM 101 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in public speaking meets the course

standard through one of the following three routes:

  1. Meets Communication discipline standard, or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g. rhetoric, linguistics, homiletics, law, theatre, public relations); or
  3. Possesses an earned master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in speech, and have 12 graduate credits in speech or communication and 12 undergraduate credits in speech or communication at the 300- and 400- level.
COMM 102 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in interpersonal communication meets the course standard through one of following three routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard, or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g. social work, counseling, sociology, psychology); or
  3. Possesses an earned master’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in speech, has 12 graduate credits in speech or communication and 12 undergraduate credits in speech or communication at the 300- and 400- level.
COMM 201 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in COMM 201 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard; or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., public relations, journalism, marketing, advertising, telecommunications).
COMM 202 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in COMM 202 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard; or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., counseling, organizational psychology).
COMM 203 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in COMM 203 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard; or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., theatre, performance studies).
COMM 204 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in COMM 204 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard, or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline

related to the course (e.g., speech pathology, theatre, performance studies).

COMM 211 Course Standard

A qualified faculty member in COMM 211 meets the course standard through one of two routes:

  1. Meets the Communication discipline standard, or
  2. Possesses an earned master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in a discipline related to the course (e.g., marketing, public relations, public affairs)

  • Transcripts and/or relevant certifications/licenses required at time of hire
