Job Description

The Division of Humanities and Learning Communities is seeking to hire Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Communication Department in both in-person and Hybrid in-person/web courses.

Ability To Teach The Following Courses
  • COM-241: Introduction to Journalism

    There is more readily available information about current events than ever before. But what to trust? This course will help students distinguish between misinformation and journalism and provide them with a foundation of understanding the elements of news in the social media age. Engaging with news on a local, national, and global level, students will learn copy editing, audience engagement, and how data can be used to tell and mold a compelling narrative. Using the fundamentals of reporting, they will craft stories about their communities.

  • COM-242: Digital Journalism

    This journalism course is designed to have students become acclimated to the rhythms of the daily news cycle within the context of digital first journalism. Students will pitch, report, write, and edit stories in multiple digital formats. The stories will be produced ethically and adhere to current industry standards of accuracy. By the end of the course, students will have a digital portfolio of reportage across multiple platforms.

    Prerequisite: COM-241

Requirements
  • Professional experience in any aspect of journalism.
  • Ability to teach courses on campus in an in-person setting at BHCC's Charlestown or Chelsea campuses.
  • Effective communication skills are needed.
  • Excellent organizational and teaching skills.
Preferred Requirements
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Journalism, Communication, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Teaching experience at the college level, with a preference for community college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
Salary

$1,397.00 per credit hour
