Adjunct Faculty, Associate Degree Nursing

Overview

The teaching faculty provide learning activities and support that lead to course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities include planning, developing and teaching courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Classes are offered day, evening, and weekend at various times and locations during the academic year. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teaches Nursing courses at a variety of times and locations
  • Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
  • Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner
  • Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
  • Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with possible walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving a vehicle. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Schedule And Conditions
  • Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone and standard office equipment, and discipline-specific equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal safety hazards
  • Hours vary depending on class time; instructors must meet scheduled classes and be available to students outside instructional time
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing OR Master's degree or higher in any field, with a bachelor's degree in nursing from an approved or accredited program and at least six graduate hours in nursing applicable to teaching responsibilities
  • 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field
  • Current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas (22 Tex. Admin. Code 215.7)
Salary

$59.80 per contact hour.
