Job summary

SUNY Ulster is seeking adjunct instructors to teach English courses (English 101 and 102) starting January 2027. Instructors will report to the Department Chair and may teach at Stone Ridge and/or Kingston Center Campus, delivering course content, evaluating student progress, and ensuring alignment with college policies.

Required are a Master’s degree in Literature or Composition and Rhetoric, ability to teach in person, and proficiency with Brightspace.

Qualifications

• Masters’ degree in Literature or Masters’ degree in Composition and Rhetoric.
• Ability to teach in-person at one of the physical campus locations.
• Ability to teach using Brightspace, the College’s learning management system.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Technological competency sufficient to carry out expectations of the position.

Responsibilities

• Meet each scheduled class and teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire period.
• Contact the appropriate division chair or administrator in advance to make arrangements for unavoidable absences.
• Provide each student, and the academic department, with a Course Outline derived from the official course syllabus at the beginning of the course. The outline will include contact information, topics covered, a full description of the grading system, and information about how the student will be assessed per the department guidelines.
• Accurately keep required class records on attendance, withdrawal and grading.
• Submit when due, all necessary reports such as attendance and grade reports, roll books, and class information sheets, and certify as to their accuracy.
• Comply with all institutional and departmental policies, procedures, and deadlines.
• Give careful attention to departmental and administrative communications by checking SUNY Ulster email frequently.
• Maintain a gradebook in Brightspace.
