Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking adjunct faculty to teach didactic, lab, and clinical courses on an as-needed basis for the Dental Assisting program. The role requires preparing syllabi, delivering instruction, assessing students, maintaining records, and available outside class time for student questions.

Applicants must hold credentials (CDA or DDS license, EFDA certificate, and a bachelor’s degree or higher) and have at least two years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Earned bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
• Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or licensed dentist (DDS)
• EFDA Certificate
• Two years of directly related experience
• For lab/clinical courses: CDA and two years of related work experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes and follow course syllabi.
• Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) and maintain attendance and grading records.
• Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions and assist.
• Meet all scheduled classes and use Blackboard/PowerPoint as appropriate.
• Notify chair in emergency absences and promote diversity in work.

Job description

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

Major Responsibilities

PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information within established timelines. STUDENTS: Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues. INSTRUCTION: Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Minimum Qualifications:

A qualified faculty member teaching didactic courses in the Dental Assisting program meets all three of the following criteria:
1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution, and
2. Is a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or licensed dentist (DDS),

3. Hold an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) Certificate, and
4. Has two years of directly related experience

A qualified faculty member teaching laboratory and clinical courses in the Dental Assisting program meets both of the following criteria:
1. Is a certified Dental Assistant (CDA), and
2. Has two years of directly related work experience
