Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Coach in the specific sport requested within the Shawnee School District.
• Ensure compliance with rules and regulations set forth by OSSAA.
• Teach fundamentals, strategy, rules, and techniques.
• Issue, care, maintain and store equipment.
• Suggest improvements for coaching techniques and discipline.
• Advise and counsel students on eligibility for athletics.
• Assist in compiling schedules and lists of officials.
• Attend coaches' meetings and clinics for professional growth.
• Supervise athletics during practice time.
• Maintain facilities and equipment to ensure a safe environment.
• Emphasize sportsmanship at all times.
• Work with Head Coach for athletes' proper conditioning and safety.
• Assist in preparing an annual report evaluating the program.

Overview

Job Title: Extra Duty Position: Adjunct Coach

Site: Shawnee Public Schools – Middle School or High School

Reports to: Athletic Director, Principal

Qualifications

• Credentials: Driver’s license with acceptable driving record. CDL may be required to drive school bus or van.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Training or Experience Required: Successful prior experience within the sport requested.

Responsibilities

• To assist Head Coach in the specific sport requested within the Shawnee School District.
• Assist with compliance of the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Secondary Activities Association in the OSSAA handbook to ensure that all rules of OSSAA are followed to the letter and intent of the rule.
• Assist with the teaching of fundamentals, strategy, rules and techniques. May be assigned a specific assignment.
• Assist with issuing, care maintenance and storage of equipment.
• Makes suggestions for the improvement of coaching techniques, discipline, personal habits, etc.
• May assist with advising and counseling students on their eligibility requirements for participation in athletics.
• May assist in compiling schedules and list of officials to the Athletic Director for approval before they are finalized.
• Attends coaches\' meetings and clinics for professional growth.
• Supervises athletics during the athletic hour and practice time.
• Ensures facilities and equipment are maintained to ensure a healthy and safe environment for activities and report deficiencies and damages immediately to the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
• Provides for and stresses sportsmanship at ALL times.
• Works with Head Coach to ensure proper conditioning of athletes; proper safety devices are worn; proper recovery time is implemented pursuant to medical opinion; and that health and safety concerns including the bloodborne pathogen policy is followed.
• May assist in preparing at the end of each season an annual report evaluating the program and makes recommendations for improvements.
• Adheres to the District\'s Bloodborne Pathogen Policy.
• Performs such other duties as might fall within their jurisdiction which may be assigned.

Supervision exercised: Employee does not supervise other employees.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to communicate on the telephone and in person.
• Must be able to demonstrate/coach student athletes in the mechanics of the sport.

Terms of Employment

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Shawnee Board Policy on evaluation of personnel.
