Position Overview

The Gus Machado College of Business at St. Thomas University invites applications for a pool of qualified adjunct faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses as instructional needs arise. Assignments may be available in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, international business, logistics and supply chain management, business analytics, data analytics, management information systems, cybersecurity management, hospitality and tourism, sports administration, fashion merchandising, healthcare administration, business law, and related disciplines.

This is a part-time, non-tenure-track appointment. Courses may be offered during the day or evening and in on-ground, online, accelerated, or hybrid formats. Placement in the applicant pool does not guarantee an interview or teaching assignment. Appointments are contingent upon enrollment, program needs, successful credential review, and completion of all University hiring requirements.

  • Prepare and maintain an accurate course syllabus using the University-approved format and post required course materials in the learning management system before the start of the course.
  • Deliver engaging, inclusive, and academically rigorous instruction that connects theory, ethical decision-making, and contemporary professional practice.
  • Use Canvas or the designated learning management system to communicate with students, distribute materials, collect assignments, provide feedback, and maintain current grades.
  • Assess student learning through appropriate examinations, written work, presentations, projects, case analyses, experiential activities, or other methods aligned with course learning outcomes.
  • Submit attendance, early-alert information, midterm grades, final grades, and other required reports accurately and by established deadlines.
  • Provide timely, substantive feedback and maintain regular availability for student questions, consultation, academic guidance, and referrals to University support services.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of attendance, grades, communications, and assessment evidence in compliance with University requirements and applicable law.
  • Collaborate with the program director, lead faculty, and other instructors to support consistency across multiple sections and continuous improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  • Participate, as requested, in adjunct orientation, faculty meetings, assessment activities, course reviews, professional development, accreditation support, and College initiatives.
  • Maintain professional expertise through ongoing engagement with current research, technology, industry standards, professional organizations, or relevant practice.
  • Support the Catholic mission of St. Thomas University and model professionalism, ethical leadership, respect, academic integrity, and commitment to student success.
  • Comply with University policies related to FERPA, accessibility, Title IX, nondiscrimination, academic integrity, information security, and workplace conduct.
  • Perform other instructional duties reasonably associated with the assigned course or program.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A master’s degree or higher in the teaching discipline or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution, normally including at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline; or equivalent documented professional qualifications approved through the University’s faculty credentialing process.
  • Relevant professional, managerial, technical, entrepreneurial, or industry experience appropriate to the assigned course.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and engage students with varied academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to use instructional technology, email, videoconferencing platforms, and a learning management system such as Canvas.
  • Ability to meet course preparation, communication, attendance reporting, grading, and records-management deadlines.
  • Commitment to St. Thomas University’s Catholic mission, ethical leadership focus, and student-centered learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related field.
  • Previous college-level teaching experience, including experience teaching online, hybrid, accelerated, or adult learners.
  • Current professional licensure or certification relevant to the discipline, such as CPA, CMA, CFA, SHRM, PMP, cybersecurity, analytics, or other industry-recognized credentials.
  • Evidence of effective teaching, including student evaluations, peer observations, sample syllabi, or teaching portfolio materials.
  • Experience using applied learning methods such as simulations, consulting projects, case studies, internships, community partnerships, or industry-sponsored projects.
  • Established professional networks that may support guest speakers, internships, mentorship, experiential learning, or career opportunities for students.

Work Environment and Scheduling

Compensation and Benefits

Adjunct compensation is established by St. Thomas University and is based on the assigned course, credit hours, credentials, and applicable University policy.
