Job summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Total Vehicle Development Team within the Material Development Department to support adhesive development efforts for North and South American production vehicles.

The role involves validating adhesives, sealers, and waxes, conducting vehicle teardowns and audits, and collaborating with suppliers and Hyundai R&D in Korea. Travel up to 15% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in adhesives, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field.
  • 5+ years in adhesives/sealer engineering or coatings.
  • Experience evaluating and validating adhesive properties.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Validate adhesives, sealers, and waxes for NA/SA production sites with lab and suppliers.
  • Conduct adhesive/sealer development vehicle teardowns and quality audits.
  • Consult with plant locations and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
  • Analyze adhesive performance and determine root causes.
  • Support development of testing and material specifications.
  • Investigate new adhesive and sealer technologies.
  • May include patent ideas, R&D projects, and collaboration with suppliers.
  • Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Total Vehicle Development Team of the Material Development Department to support adhesive development efforts for North and South American production vehicles through collaborative workwith suppliers and engineering design, manufacturing, and plant purchasing teams

What You Will Do:
  • Validate adhesives, sealers, and waxes for North and South American production sites, through collaboration with the coatings laboratory team, paint suppliers, plant purchasing and manufacturing teams, and the Hyundai R&D center in South Korea
  • Perform adhesive and sealer-related development vehicle quality teardowns and evaluations on site at HMG (Hyundai Motor Group) production facilities, as well as quality audits of current production adhesives
  • Consult with plant manufacturing locations and associated suppliers to support North and South American manufacturing locations in resolving quality-related issues concerning adhesives, sealers, waxes, etc.
  • Analyze adhesive performance, determine root causes for quality concerns, and propose countermeasures to prevent issue recurrence for in-plant and in-field vehicles
  • Support the development of new testing and material specifications, as well as testing methodologies related to adhesives and sealers
  • Investigate new adhesive and sealer technologies (e.g., chemistries, application technology, benchmarking, etc.)
  • May include patent idea submissions, R&D projects, and co-work with HMG suppliers and the Hyundai R&D center in South Korea
  • Travel up to 15% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in adhesives, chemical engineering, chemistry, material science, polymers and coatings technology, polymer science/engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in adhesives and/or sealer engineering, coatings, or materials
  • Industry experience performing adhesive property evaluation and validation responsibilities
  • Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Project management experience
  • Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
