Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an Additive Manufacturing Engineering Technician to setup, operate, monitor, and change over AM equipment, including 3D printers and related systems for spaceflight hardware. The role entails recording operational data, maintaining tool readiness, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

The position is part of Blue Origin Operations at the Kent, WA facility and offers relocation support with hands-on, high-mobility duties across multiple work centers.

Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing or related technical field.
  • Ability to operate complex equipment including metallic AM machines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic software tools.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Attention to quality and process discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Operate AM machinery and related equipment safely.
  • Document work orders and reference control media for traceability.
  • Coordinate with programmers, production control, machinists and technicians.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; follow safety protocols.
  • Support safety, 5S, continuous improvement and FOD control.
  • Handle and process materials and hazmat from 3D printers; track inventory.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Job Summary

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for Additive Manufacturing machine set up, operation, monitoring and build to build change over as well as some preventive maintenance. These machine’s and processing equipment support Blue Origin’s various spaceflight systems. You will monitor and record operational information such as functional issues related to laser melt pool, material consumption rates, material inventory, build starts and completion dates. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of Additive Manufactured spaceflight and supporting hardware, continuous improvement, automation, and process development.

The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Engineering Technician position is very hands‑on, offers critical insight into the daily AM machine/equipment functions that may not be well‑understood by AM Programmers, AM Applications, and/or the management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate machinery in a safe manner, including PIT equipment, overhead cranes, printers and sieves that support different alloys.
  • Firm understanding of work instructions and applying proper documentation to each work order.
  • Review and understand control media as it applies to work orders and be able to reference them for documentation purposes throughout the shift.
  • Interface with a variety of stakeholders from within Additive including; programmers, production control, machinist and technicians across multiple work centers.
  • This position has a high degree of necessary physical mobility. Including climbing stairs, ladders and other lift devices. Position requires long periods of standing and covering long distances between work centers.
  • Maintain a healthy, clean and organized work area.
  • Support department initiatives on safety, 5S, continuous improvement and FOD control.
  • Wear PAPR and PPE while on shift.
  • Handle and process hazmat originating from 3D printers. Restock and apply passivation material at various collection and refill sites in the facility.
  • Handle and process raw materials used to feed 3D printers, logging transactions while on shift.
  • Handle and process printed parts with various lifting assists on a multitude of 3D printers.
  • Logging and maintaining data while on production floor through mobile work stations and tablets. Deep understanding of Microsoft Windows and iOS devices is required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, Metallic Additive Manufacturing production experience, or related technical field (0-3 years Level I Technician, 3+ Level II Technician, 5+ Level III Technician, 8+ Sr Level Technician)
  • Proven your ability to operate/work with complex processes and equipment including but limited to precision medical equipment, Robotics equipment and/or Metallic Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines.
  • Ability to work with complex software interfaces to ensure the highest fidelity information for our internal and external customers.
  • An attitude that insists on the highest standards: quality, attention-to-detail, and dedication to the rigors necessary to pursue of human-space-flight goals.
  • Ability to show technical process thinking, an eye for process improvement and demonstrated ability to adhere to schedule constraints.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office

Base Pay Range For

WA applicants is $27.67 - $38.73
