Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) has joined NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx to add an Addiction Medicine Physician. The role focuses on addiction care in the ED, inpatient units, and SUD Walk-In Clinic, with supervision of NPs and PAs and collaboration with specialists to ensure seamless transition to outpatient care.

The ideal candidate is Board Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine, holds a NYS medical license, and can prescribe buprenorphine

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide addiction care in the ED, IP units, and SUD Walk-In Clinic.
  • Supervise Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on the Addiction Consult Service.
  • Collaborate to ensure seamless transitions from acute to outpatient care.
  • Participate in daily huddles, meetings, and Grand Rounds.
  • Evaluate and treat acute withdrawal from substances.
  • Treat AUD and OUD with appropriate medical therapy.
  • Review labs/EKGs and arrange follow-up referrals.
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, subspecialists, PCPs, psychiatrists.
  • Conduct SAFE-T suicide risk assessments in the SUD clinic.
  • Participate in medical/behavioral codes as needed.
  • Provide opioid overdose education and naloxone training.
  • Teach fellows/residents/students and deliver didactic content.
  • Assist leadership with QA and process improvement.

NCB is a 213-bed community hospital providing quality care in a friendly setting. Opportunity Details
  • Provide addiction care and harm reduction services to patients in the ED, IP units, and SUD Walk-In Clinic.
  • Provide supervision of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on the Addiction Consult Service.
  • Collaborate with the Addiction Consult Service Clinical Supervisor and other Addiction Consult Service staff to facilitate interconnection from the acute care setting to outpatient follow-up and ongoing care.
  • Participate in daily team huddles, regularly scheduled Addiction Consult Service staff meetings and case conferences, and departmental Grand Rounds.
  • Evaluate and treat patients in acute withdrawal from substances, including alcohol and/or opioids.
  • Provide ongoing medical treatment for patients with SUDs, including Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).
  • Review labs, EKGs, and other tests as clinically indicated and initiate referrals for follow-up care.
  • Collaborate with hospitalists and subspecialists, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical disciplines within the hospital.
  • Conduct suicide risk assessments (SAFE-T evaluations) in the SUD Walk-In Clinic.
  • Participate in medical and behavioral codes, as needed.
  • Provide opioid overdose education, naloxone training, and distribution of other harm reduction resources to patients and their friends and families.
  • Teach and train fellows, residents, and medical students rotating on the Addiction Consult Service, as well as preparing didactic presentations, as needed.
  • Assist medical leadership with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM).
  • Active New York State Medical License.
  • Active DEA Registration, including waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
  • At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services preferred.
Wages and Benefits include
  • Annual Base Salary: $246,000* (board eligible); $256,000* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.
  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.
  • Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
