Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking engineers for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team in Dearborn. You will drive feature engineering, requirements development, and system-level testing for safety-critical vehicle features such as braking and park assist.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Hardware, Software and Test teams, with a focus on delivering high-quality features and meeting customer expectations within Ford’s safety processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or foreign equivalency.
  • 5+ years in the ADAS domain with radar/camera/LIDAR sensing.
  • 2+ years in system engineering including requirements development, system integration, and FMA analysis.
  • Strong communication and ability to lead ad-hoc teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of feature engineering deliverables (requirements, diagrams, test procedures).
  • Coordinate with Hardware, Software and Test teams to cascade feature requirements.
  • Develop vehicle-level use cases and feature-level specifications for production delivery.
  • Ensure end-user objectives through structured system-level testing.

We are seeking professionals who can contribute to our efforts with experience and passion in the development of features, functions, sensors, ECUs, models, and software. It will likely also involve other elements of the process because we are more interested in adding high quality people to the team than trying to squeeze engineers into a specific role. You will:


  • Lead the development of feature engineering deliverables including Concept, Logical and Technology requirements, Boundary diagrams,design analysis, Failure Mode Avoidance, robustness fields and test procedures.
  • Work with Hardware, Software and Test teams to ensure Feature requirements are cascaded, aligned, and accepted.
  • Develop and refine vehicle level uses cases, interfaces and feature level specification to ensure production feature delivery.
  • Establish Feature objectives and ensure system operation to meet the end-user/customer objectives through a structured system level test methodology
  • Work with Functional Safety engineers to develop and refine feature functional safety requirements, item definition, hazard analysis/risk assessment and functional safety concept incompliance with ISO-26262/Ford Functional Safety process.
  • Ensure new features seamlessly integrate with existing features to provide a superb customer experience
  • Work with the virtual validation teams to establish CAE procedures to reduce dependence on vehicle-level testing.
  • Assure that the integration of affected systems meet the requirements for desired feature-level performance
  • Support development of Design validation methods to ensure feature robustness across all vehicle environmental conditions and customer usage profiles
  • Use data analysis techniques and methods from data generated by track, lab and model-based validation method to ensure feature achieves a desired set of requirements.
  • Plan and help execute real-world evaluation of ADAS features via vehicle/HIL/virtual testing and identify system problems/issues
  • Support and coordinate root-cause analysis with internal functions and external suppliers to ensure delivered system achieves feature requirements
  • Support Sign-off of feature level performance for first vehicle program implementation
  • Gather quality history to manage and drive feature quality and improvements (i.e. Data Analytics/VOCF/Launch Feedback/Warranty/External Metrics such as JD Powers).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Computer Engineering or related degree; or foreign equivalency degree, or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • 5+ years of experience developing in the ADAS domain using radars, cameras, LIDAR, ultrasonic sensors and/or other related vehicle systems (e.g. body, electrical, chassis, powertrain, etc.)
  • 2+ years in system engineering including experience with the System V, Functional decomposition, design analysis, Concept, Logical and technology level requirements development, System integration and FMA analysis
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead ad-hoc teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with ADAS systems
  • 5+ years of experience with GPDS and program deliverables
  • 5+ years of experience with ADAS Perception, Sensing, or Control systems
  • 5+ years of experience with system architecture, design, and documentation
  • Experience with SysML/MagicDraw
  • Experience with Functional Safety (ISO26262) and Failure Mode Avoidance

This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $85,400-$143,200.


This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $99,600-$156,600.


This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $115,000-$165,900.
