Qualifications

• Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
• Licensure in Special Education or eligibility to obtain Virginia Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.

Responsabilités

• Instructs students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and transfer of knowledge.
• Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter per state law and Newport News Public Schools regulations.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt curriculum to each student.
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to maximize instruction time.
• Guides learning toward achievement of IEP goals, with clear objectives for students.
• Serves as liaison between classroom and specialty groups.
• Evaluates academic and social growth; prepares report cards and maintains attendance records.
• Assesses student progress; seeks Specialist input for accurate statements.
• Communicates regularly with parents/guardians through conferences and other means.
• Supervises student movement and escorts students to resources and other areas.
• Participates as a multidisciplinary team member as appropriate.
• Administers standardized testing per division practices.
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Maintains professional competence by attending staff development and curriculum meetings.
• Participates in PTA and after-school activities; creates engaging classroom displays and centers.
