Job summary

Hearst Magazines is seeking a Full Stack Ad Tech Developer in New York City to build scalable backend services and data pipelines powering advertising and revenue across the company's digital platforms.

You will work with Python, SQL, and JavaScript, contribute to ETL workflows, APIs, and front-end tooling using React/Node.js, and collaborate across teams on privacy-conscious data solutions in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in full stack software development with a strong focus on backend development, data engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and JavaScript.
• Experience building applications with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL workflows, data pipelines, APIs, and backend services.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS, including serverless technologies.
• Familiarity with data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of data privacy requirements, including GDPR, CCPA, and privacy-focused system design principles.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services that process high volumes of advertising event and audience engagement data through reliable ETL pipelines.
• Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and enrichment systems that integrate with ad servers, SSPs, data management platforms, and other third-party technologies.
• Develop APIs and internal tools that support ad delivery, campaign measurement, troubleshooting, and revenue reporting.
• Create and maintain front-end applications and operational tools using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js.
• Implement scalable approaches to data storage, retrieval, normalization, and processing across cloud platforms including Google Cloud Platform and AWS.
• Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and ad operations teams to deliver accurate, privacy-compliant, and reliable data solutions for reporting and downstream applications.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize applications, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices while applying privacy-by-design principles across all systems.
