Job summary

ProMedica is seeking a Phlebotomist at Bay Park Hospital in the Laboratory department. You will collect specimens, perform testing, and manage pre-analytic steps including centrifugation and packaging while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

You will use QA data to improve processes, and may train new staff. A High School diploma or equivalent plus phlebotomy training or hospital rotation experience is required.

As a ProMedica Phlebotomist, you will collect products and/or specimens for procedures and perform testing while caring for the patient before, during and after collection. You will perform pre-analytic tasks for sample preparation including centrifugation, decanting, specimen distribution and specimen packaging.

In this role, you will use quality assurance data to enhance services and recommend changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customer satisfaction.

You are required to be familiar with test names and abbreviations and cross-referencing tests to specimen types. You will also be required to follow strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis and use your leadership skills to help train new associates or students.

REQUIREMENTS

• High School diploma or equivalent
• A diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute OR one year phlebotomy experience.
• Successful completion of an academic program which included substantial practical clinical phlebotomy experience (i.e.: 3+ week clinical student rotation program in a hospital setting).

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Professional registration preferred [i.e., PBT(ASCP)]
• 1 year experience in a high-volume phlebotomy environment
