Northwest Specialty Hospital, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, brings expanded services to a new building located at 6225 Sharlands Ave. in Northwest Reno. The facility will offer acute rehabilitation and adult behavioral health services.

Our acute rehabilitation services include occupational, speech, and physical therapy for adults recovering from stroke, injury, or another disabling condition. We offer advanced treatment for a wide range of conditions including stroke, brain injury, amputation, neurological disorders, major multiple traumas and spinal cord and back injuries. All patients will experience private rooms, have access to a newly renovated therapy gym, and personalized care from our qualified staff.

The adult behavioral health services offered is an expansion to our current 50 and older program at NNMC. The new program will offer behavioral health services to all adults 18 years and older. The department is managed through a multidisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, CNAs, social workers, and therapists. Patients will experience an individualized care plan, inclusive of individual and family therapy, activities, medication management, and a 24‑hour secure, compassionate environment.

This Acute Hospital Inpatient Occupational Therapist opportunity is per diem and offers a convenient schedule. This dynamic individual will be responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments and occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Directs the occupational therapy department certified staff, including occupational Therapy assistants, occupational therapy aides, occupational therapy certification applicants and occupational therapy students.
• Observes and evaluates treatment affect. Recommends change to physician, if needed.
• Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments, as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general adult patient population.
