Qualifications

  • Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
  • Arizona Board Wallet Card at time of hire is required in AZ.
  • Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience in related to pharmacy distribution.
  • Ability to perform moderate to difficult mathematical calculations.
  • Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

This role supports pharmacy billing and reconciliation activities for inpatient and outpatient medication charges, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of billing processes.

Responsibilities include reviewing patient accounts to identify and resolve billing discrepancies, assisting with charge audits, maintaining billing records, and providing administrative support to the department through scheduling, filing, coordination of activities, and customer service.

This position is scheduled for Monday through Friday, working eight-hour day shifts from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Hire On Incentive up to $2,500 available. Recruiter to provide these details during the interview process.

Enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18%-night shift differential when applicable.

Banner Baywood Medical Center is a 342 bed hospital serving the health care needs of the dynamic and growing East Valley communities of metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for billing and reconciliation of patient charges for medications and IV solutions for inpatients and outpatients. This includes meeting established deadlines for completion of all phases of billing and reconciliation. Reviews patient charts to identify and correct billing issues associated with high cost single charges or high cost total patient charges. Uses the company’s Charge Description Master (CDM) to review billings and charges associated with medications for internal billing auditors. Routinely interacts with a variety of hospital departments. Serves as clerical and administrative resource for the department with duties that may include reception, scheduling, filing, and coordination of department activities.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  1. 1. Reviews patient records, dedicated reports, and physician/provider notes to obtain information about medication usage. Uses a standard listing of charge codes and/or an automated system to validate medication charges. Documents according to standards set by the department and regulatory agencies.
  2. 2. Serves as a resource to hospital personnel and pharmacy staff in resolving billing questions related to medications. Acts as a resource in regard to appropriate billable units for medications for pharmacy personnel or internal auditors. Uses prior experience, diversified procedures and general instructions and procedures to solve a variety of problems.
  3. 3. Monitors and evaluates system reports to prevent erroneous billing practices. Audits daily error reports in the medication billing system and makes corrections when issues are identified. Matches, corrects, and codes charges that do not transmit to the billing system. Identifies and resolves problems with the medication billing system, as well as assists in the development and implementation of programs to improve and enhance service quality.
  4. 4. Verifies and inputs patient charges into the applicable billing systems. Processes charges for non-formulary medications, EMS replenishment, specialty area charges that are not already automated, and patient assistance billing. This may involve compiling data from multiple sources into meaningful information and then transferring that into the appropriate systems.
  5. 5. Analyzes financial reports generated by the technology systems for the pharmacy department. Presents reports to management and assists with the resolution of issues identified.
  6. 6. Provides clerical and administrative support to department leadership and staff as requested. This may include recording and distributing meeting minutes, project involvement, scheduling meetings and interviews, greeting and screening department visitors, answering phone calls, and other similar duties as needed.
  7. 7. Assumes the duties of the Acute Pharmacy Technician when needed and as appropriate. These duties may include, but not be limited to preparing, charging and crediting medications, restocking automated dispensing technology and compounding specialty medications, and intravenous medications to include hazardous medications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.

Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.

Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience in working with automated technology systems in related to pharmacy distribution.

Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.

Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi‑task.

Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Automated dispensing systems.

Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.

Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience serving as a pharmacy and nursing liaison for automated distribution systems desired.

Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
