A Brief Overview

Emergency nursing is a specialty within the nursing profession that encompasses the care of individuals across the life span who present with physical, emotional, or psychological alterations of health. Emergency nursing care is episodic, primary, and typically emergent or acute, but it also may be chronic in nature and occurs in a variety of care settings. Emergency nursing encompasses care that ranges from non-urgent to critical, addressing crisis intervention, forensic, palliative, and end-of-life issues. It includes the care of patients of all ages and health conditions. Emergency nurses have adapted nursing process to include triage as a component of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of human responses when caring for patients.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN)

Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted.
  • Required Basic Life Support - BLS May be required depending on the department within 90 days of hire date.
  • Other RQI's maybe required depending on the department, within 90 days of hire date.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - PALS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - ACLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course - ENPC Required within one year of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course - TNCC Required within one year of hire.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse - BCEN - Magnet, Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse - BCEN - Magnet Preferred
What you will do
