Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Missouri is seeking Acute Care Medicine Registered Nurses to join our inpatient team. This role features 12-hour day shifts (7am–7pm) on a full-time schedule with a $15,000 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates.

RN candidates will provide direct patient care, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, and support patient safety and care coordination in a Magnet-designated academic medical center.

Qualifications

• RN licensure required.
• Nursing diploma or associate's degree required; bachelor's preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Educates patients and families on illness, treatment plans, and home care needs.
• Participates in patient safety and quality initiatives and professional development.
• Develops and documents individualized care plans with goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
• Ensures communication of care plans across the continuum and adheres to standards of nursing care.

Skilled in patient monitoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, clinical prioritization, emergency response, and delivery of evidence-based inpatient care in fast-paced healthcare environments.

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Acute Care Medicine manage patients with a full range of clinical issues-from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, cystic fibrosis¿and a multitude of other conditions and diseases.¿ Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning.¿Each unit is lead by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse.¿ The unit is supported by an advanced practice nurse.¿ Additionally each unit is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist.¿ This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
