Job summary

Blue Shield of California invites applications for an Actuarial Intern. You will support finance operations, underwriting and analytics under an Actuarial Manager, building models and reports while learning the health care industry.

Hybrid role requiring in-office attendance two days per week; interns gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to leadership development within a 10-week program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Math, Accounting, Finance, Economics or Actuarial Science.
• Actuarial exam started/completed prior May 2027.
• 1–2 years of related experience, project, or coursework.

Your Role

The Actuarial, Underwriting, and Financial Analytics team oversees our finance operations, underwriting, analytics, actuary, corporate development, cost of healthcare, global business services, internal audit services, controller and finance shared services functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield of California.

The Actuarial Intern will report to an Actuarial Manager. In this role, you will gain a deep understanding of the health care industry basic practices, develop technical skills, and contribute lasting models and exhibits that increase our efficiency and effectiveness.

Your Knowledge and Experience

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Actuarial Science
• Serious interest in pursuing an actuarial career by having taken at least 1 actuarial exam prior May 2027
• Preferred 1-2 years of related professional experience, project, or coursework
• A robust analytical skill set (Microsoft Excel proficiency experience is required)
• Financial acumen and ability to synthesize data into insights and/or reporting
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Hybrid

This role requires employees to be in-office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in-person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week. Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in-office time based on business need.

Pay

$25.00 per hour for Undergraduate

$30.00 per hour for Graduate
