Job summary

Oscar Health is hiring an Intern to join our Actuarial team in New York. The role offers exposure to Pricing, ETF, or Valuation practices within a technology-driven health insurer. You will report to the Senior Manager, Actuarial, and work a hybrid schedule with three in-office days per week, including Thursdays.

Hours are 40 per week for at least 10 weeks, with an hourly rate between $33.04 and $43.37. Benefits include standard employee programs and 15 days of vacation accrual per year.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of college toward a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
• Proficiency in Excel/SQL/Python and familiarity with actuarial concepts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Produce a predetermined project or projects to support one of Oscar’s actuarial teams. Projects may include building automation tools, projection models, dashboards, or experience studies.
• Gain exposure to actuarial concepts, tools, and industry practices.
• Participate in actuarial and cross-functional meetings to build relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Assist with ad hoc analysis and communicate findings to both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hi, we’re Oscar. We’re hiring an Intern to join our Actuarial team.

About The Role

The Intern, Actuarial will support one of Oscar’s three actuarial practices: Pricing, ETF (Experience, Trends, & Forecasting), or Valuation. They will get an introduction to the healthcare industry from the perspective of an innovative, technology-driven health insurer, as well as gain valuable experience working with Oscar’s actuaries and business partners to develop both the technical and communication skills required in the actuarial profession. All interns are required to report to Oscar’s New York Headquarters for a minimum of three days per week. Candidates must be available 40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.

You will report into the Senior Manager, Actuarial.

Work Location

This position is based in our New York City office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule.

Pay Transparency

The hourly rate will be $33.04-$43.37. You are also eligible for employee benefits and monthly vacation accrual at a rate of 15 days per year.

Requirements

• 3+ years of college towards a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field;

Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.
