Qualifications

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associates Degree OR a BA/BS with 3.0+ GPA and no actuarial experience required.
  • Successful completion of actuarial exams (Analyst: 1+ exam; Senior FCAS path 5+ exams or 3+ with 3+ years) and relevant experience.
  • Willingness to collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Pricing to derive insights.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quarterly premium and loss reserve analyses and IFRS 17 components.
  • Assist in preparing materials for quarterly reserve governance committee.
  • Ensure loss reserves and IFRS 17 components are reflected in the financial close.
  • Perform loss ratio planning and forecasting including IFRS 17 elements.
  • Collaborate with Pricing on forward-looking loss ratios and trends.
  • Communicate reserve recommendations and financial impact to leadership across teams.

Job description

Zurich North America is currently looking for an Actuarial Analyst or Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Reserving team focused on the Primary General Liability line of business. Our preference is for the position to be based in our Chicago or Schaumburg, IL office, with consideration for individuals based out of the New York City or Toronto office locations.

  • Conduct quarterly premium & loss reserve analyses to make recommendations for quarterly financial results including IFRS 17 components of discount and risk adjustment.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for quarterly reserve governance committee.
  • Ensure loss reserves and IFRS 17 components are appropriately reflected in the financial close.
  • Perform loss ratio planning & forecasting including IFRS 17 elements.
  • Collaborate regularly with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and Pricing to develop insights on trends and emerging issues on the insurance portfolios.
  • Engage and seek alignment with Pricing colleagues on forward looking loss ratios.
  • Communicate reserve recommendations with financial impacts along with insights derived from reserving work to management within Actuarial, Finance, and Underwriting.

This role will be filled at either the Actuarial Analyst or Senior Actuarial Analyst level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications - Actuarial Analyst
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associate Degree and 2 or more years technical/insurance experience OR
  • Bachelors Degree with 3.0 cumulative GPA and No prior experience required in the Actuarial area AND
  • Successful completion of one or more actuarial exams
Basic Qualifications - Senior Actuarial Analyst
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree OR
  • Bachelors Degree AND
  • Successful completion of 5 or more actuarial exams (applicable to FCAS designation or equivalent international certification) with 2 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area OR
  • Successful completion of 3 or more actuarial exams (applicable to FCAS designation or equivalent international certification) with 3 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous actuarial internship or related experience
  • Successful completion of two or more actuarial exams
  • Dedication to the Casualty Actuarial Societies’ accreditation exam process with a goal of obtaining both ACAS and FCAS
  • Ability to analyze data and offer insight to non-technical professionals
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or knowledge of statistical analysis software

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The combined salary range for this position is $59,900.00 - $142,700.00. The proposed salary range for the Actuarial Analyst is $59,900.00 - $98,200.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Senior Actuarial Analyst is $87,200.00 - $142,700.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
