The Atlantic Region Property and Casualty (P&C) practice, with locations in Boston MA and Burlington VT, provides actuarial consulting services on a range of projects across the insurance, reinsurance, insurance‑linked securities (ILS) and alternative‑risk markets. We work with a diverse set of clients including self‑insured corporations, commercial insurance companies, governmental agencies, risk pools, and financial investors. Using a variety of Milliman products and practice‑built tools, we look to establish and develop the cutting edge of actuarial practice in each of our professional niches, and provide our clients with trusted partnership and advice to advance the financial well‑being of people everywhere.

The team is a focused and tight‑knit group, working together across multiple locations. Team members work on a range of client projects of various sizes, and we employ a highly integrated project structure that encourages interaction across all members of the team, from Analysts to the Principals who serve as client leads. While most of our team’s time is spent working with members of the practice, we also have assignments that are completed in partnership with other Milliman offices around the world.

We believe that the actuarial skillset has important applications across both our traditional actuarial work and our work in developing market areas, and are committed to developing a pipeline of actuarial talent and future leaders of the firm through exam support and interaction with senior colleagues.

Building upon two or more years of professional actuarial experience, this Analyst will be expected to produce high‑quality work and on occasion delegate tasks to junior team members. Much of this person’s work will involve complex data manipulation and summarization in Excel, but supplemental programming, statistical, and database skills are highly valued and will open up additional opportunities for impactful client assignments and advancement.

Our ideal Actuarial Analyst demonstrates professionalism and strong communication skills in all internal and external interaction, with a strong work ethic and intrinsic motivation, especially when working remotely. An up‑and‑coming actuary who enjoys the technical aspect of the field as well as presenting results and recommendations will thrive in this role.

  • Direct, train and provide guidance to Actuarial Analysts (e.g., data cleaning, checking)
  • Comply with internal quality control, risk management, and peer review guidelines
  • Participate in marketing opportunities including publications and presentations
  • Present findings to peers, project managers, and client relationship managers
  • Draft written reports and exhibits, and prepare other internal/external correspondence
  • Check their own and peers’ work for accuracy in the mechanics as well as the methodology
  • Write detailed documentation to keep track of how data is compiled for specific projects
  • Implement process improvements to produce better results
  • Perform or assist with other duties assigned at the direction of practice Principals
