Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking an actuarial professional to support financial forecasting, reserve valuation, and healthcare analytics initiatives. You’ll work with a collaborative team across Finance, Underwriting, Sales & Marketing, Network Management, Healthcare, and other areas.

You will perform actuarial research, data validation for filings, and model enhancements while supporting senior staff. Hybrid-Flex work arrangement available with strong benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in a related field.
  • 2+ years of actuarial experience or near graduate status considered.
  • Completed at least 3 actuarial exams toward ASA (or ASA equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Perform actuarial research, experience studies, and statistics.
  • Calculate premiums and reserves for new and existing plans.
  • Support senior analysts and actuaries as required.
  • Retrieve and validate data for rate filings and models.
  • Communicate filing status to stakeholders and regulators.
  • Validate data for monthly reports and ALR/UCL calculations.
  • Support valuation and research ALR assumptions.
  • Distribute reports and investigate trends.
  • Assist in Enterprise Risk Management controls.
  • Provide analytics for corporate projects.

Job Description

The Commercial Reserving team is seeking an actuarial professional to support financial forecasting, reserve valuation, and healthcare analytics initiatives. In this role, you will apply actuarial principles, statistical analysis, and business acumen to deliver insights that support strategic decision-making and the financial performance of our health plans. Working alongside a collaborative team of actuaries, you will provide actuarial expertise and consultative support to partners across Finance, Underwriting, Sales & Marketing, Network Management, Healthcare, and other business areas.

What You’ll Do
  • Performs actuarial research, experience studies, and statistical analyses and calculations.
  • Calculates premiums and reserves of new and existing plans of insurance.
  • Provides support to senior analysts or actuaries as required.
  • Retrieves and validates data for rate filings and actuarial models. Builds model enhancements and determines reasons for changes to calculated factors. Analyzes impacts of changes to product lines and segments.
  • Communicates filing status to internal stakeholders and transmits rate filings to regulatory agencies (NCDOI, CMS).
  • Retrieves and validates data for monthly reports and for UCL and ALR calculation.
  • Supports valuation by executing ALR model and verifying results. Researches to support ALR assumption studies and UCL estimates.
  • Distributes established reports and responds to inquiries. Investigates trends and anomalies.
  • Executes control activities to support Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Provides analytic support for corporate and departmental projects.
  • Is a participant in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
  • 2+ years of relevant actuarial experience. Related experience may be considered. Will also consider those that are about to graduate or have recently graduated.
  • Must have completed at least 3 exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA designation.
  • In lieu of meeting minimum exam requirements, may consider additional relevant experience.
  • In lieu of meeting minimum experience requirements, may consider ASA or more exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA.

Salary Range

At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. Our base salary is part of a robust Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs.

$81,068.00 - $129,708.00
