Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking an Actuarial Analyst to support rating and pricing, valuation, healthcare economics, and financial forecasting. This role applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, and business principles to provide technical actuarial support.

The Actuarial Analyst works closely with a team of actuaries to ensure a coordinated approach to health program analysis and provides support to Network Management, Underwriting, Sales and Marketing, Finance, and Healthcare teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field.
• 2+ years of actuarial experience.
• Completed at least 3 exams toward the ASA designation.
• In lieu of minimum experience, ASA or more exams may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform actuarial research, experience studies, and analyses.
• Calculate premiums and reserves for new and existing plans.
• Provide support to senior actuaries as required.
• Retrieve and validate data for rate filings and actuarial models; build model enhancements and analyze changes to factors.
• Communicate filing status to internal stakeholders and transmit rate filings to regulators.
• Retrieve and validate data for monthly reports and for ALR/UCL calculations.
• Support valuation by executing ALR models and researching ALR assumption studies.
• Distribute established reports and respond to inquiries; investigate trends and anomalies.
• Execute control activities to support Enterprise Risk Management.
• Provide analytic support for corporate and departmental projects.
• Participate in the Actuarial Development Program.

Under general guidance, this role applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, and business principles to provide technical actuarial support. The Actuarial Analyst works closely with a team of actuaries to ensure a coordinated approach to health program analysis and provides support to Network Management, Underwriting, Sales and Marketing, Finance, and Healthcare teams.

What You'll Do

• Performs actuarial research, experience studies, and statistical analyses and calculations.
• Calculates premiums and reserves of new and existing plans of insurance.
• Provides support to senior analysts or actuaries as required.
• Retrieves and validates data for rate filings and actuarial models. Builds model enhancements and determines reasons for changes to calculated factors. Analyzes impacts of changes to product lines and segments.
• Communicates filing status to internal stakeholders and transmits rate filings to regulatory agencies (NCDOI, CMS).
• Retrieves and validates data for monthly reports and for UCL and ALR calculation.
• Supports valuation by executing ALR model and verifying results. Researches to support ALR assumption studies and UCL estimates.
• Distributes established reports and responds to inquiries. Investigates trends and anomalies.
• Executes control activities to support Enterprise Risk Management.
• Provides analytic support for corporate and departmental projects.
• Is a participant in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
• 2+ years of relevant actuarial experience. Related experience may be considered.
• Must have completed at least 3 exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA designation.
• In lieu of meeting minimum exam requirements, may consider additional relevant experience.
• In lieu of meeting minimum experience requirements, may consider ASA or more exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA.

Salary Range
