Job summary

Elderwood is seeking an Activity Leader to run engaging recreation programs for residents, helping keep them energized, engaged and mentally stimulated. The role requires coordinating with the Director of Activities and staff to implement the program and report progress.

The position involves varied shifts (mornings and evenings) and requires interaction with residents, families, volunteers, and coworkers, with a focus on creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere and maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 yrs age requirement, HS diploma or equivalent.
• Valid New York Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Ability to develop good relationships with staff, volunteers, families and visitors.
• Ability to inspire and motivate others, create a warm climate for residents, adapt activities as needed.
• Understanding of residents' rights and needs.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Director of Activities in planning and carrying out the activity program.
• Approaches residents on assigned unit to plan individual recreational and social activities; reports to Director in care planning.
• Prepares resident information for use in care planning and documentation; writes progress notes as assigned.
• Maintains contact with community resources for the activities program development.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; keeps attendance records and prepares reports.

Responsibilities

Activity Leader:

• Assists the Director Activities in planning and carrying out the activity program.
• Approaches residents on assigned unit to plan individual recreational and social activities; reports to Director Activities about response and cooperation of resident.
• Prepares resident information for use by the Director Activities in care planning and documentation; writes progress notes as assigned.
• Assists in developing and maintaining good contact with community resources for the betterment of the activities program.
• Responsible for maintaining departmental inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Maintains attendance records and prepares other reports as required.

Activity Leader:

• This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
