Job summary

Shrewsbury Rehabilitation and Nursing at Southgate in Massachusetts is seeking a dedicated Activity Assistant to join our caring team on a full-time basis. The role supports the Director of Activities in planning and delivering programs that meet the recreational, physical, and social needs of our residents.

You will chart progress, escort residents, and participate in a range of activities from entertainment to education, while upholding all safety, privacy, and facility policies.

Qualifications

• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must implement and interpret the department's programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
• Must perform proficiently in all competency areas including patient rights and safety and sanitation.
• Maintains professional working relationships with all employees, vendors, etc.
• Must understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs (entertainment, exercise, relaxation, education).
• Chart patient progress and behavior in records.
• Escort patients to and from activities.
• Make regular in-room visits to patients unable to participate in group activities.
• Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude toward patients.
• Assist in evacuation of patients when needed.
• Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
• Communicate and collaborate on an interdisciplinary team.
• Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, and move intermittently during shifts.
• Read, write, speak, and understand English.

Position Summary:

The Activities Assistant assists the Director of Activities in planning, organizing, developing, and directing quality activities for patients, ensuring that the recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of each patient is met in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements:

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
• Prior experience with geriatrics preferred

Job Requirements:
