Job summary

Towne Manor West is seeking an Activities/ Recreation Aide to plan, organize and direct activity programs for residents. The role includes sports, arts and crafts, nature study and social recreation aligned with resident needs, plus preparing progress reports.

The position requires high school completion and regulatory certifications, with strong communication and organizational skills. Full-time/part-time roles with an emphasis on compassionate care are offered.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent.
• Certification as required by regulatory agencies governing the facility.
• Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning and promoting recreation based on residents' needs and interests.
• Encourages social communication through group recreation.
• Provides programs of sensory training, reality orientation, re-motivation and re-socialization for individuals and groups.
• Assists residents with participation in religious programs.
• Assists residents with leisure recreation.
• Visits bed-ridden residents and non-participants and provides appropriate recreation services.
• Assists with daily radio program, monthly newsletter and recreation calendar.
• Documents resident attendance and participation levels; may help maintain files and progress notes.
• Attends in-service training programs.
• Assists with maintenance, storage and use of recreation supplies.
• Performs other duties as directed by the Recreation Director.
• Assists with setting up volunteer programs and appreciation.
• Assists in transporting residents to/from recreation programs.
• Assists with admission assessments, care plans and progress notes.
• Assists with resident council activities and outcomes.
• Facilitates community interaction programs.
• Ensures residents and families receive high-quality service in a caring atmosphere.

Position Summary:

The Recreation Assistant assists in the planning, organizing and. directing activity programs for residents. Recreation may include sports, dramatics, nature study, social recreation, games and arts and crafts in accord with resident's needs. The Recreation Assistant prepares reports on the residents' progress as may be required.

Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

1. 1 Assists in planning and promoting recreation based on the needs and interests of the resident;
2. 2 Encourages social communication through group recreation;
3. 3 Provides programs of sensory training, reality orientation, re-motivation and re-socialization on an individual and group basis;
4. 4 Assists residents with participation in religious programs;
5. 5 Assists residents with leisure recreation;
6. 6 Visits bed-ridden residents and non-participants and provides appropriate recreation services;
7. 7 Assists with the daily radio program, the monthly newsletter and recreation calendar;
8. 8 Documents resident attendance, and participation level, at recreation programs; may assist with maintaining pertinent card files and writing progress notes, if applicable;
9. 9 Attends appropriate in-service training programs;
10. 10 Assists in the maintenance, storage, and use of the recreation department supplies;
11. 11 Performs other responsibilities as directed by the Recreation Director;
12. 12 Assists with set up of volunteer program and appreciation;
13. 13 Assists in transporting residents to and from recreation programs;
14. 14 Assists with admission assessments, clinical responsibilities: MDS, care plans and progress notes;
15. 15 Assists with resident council's purpose, attendance, and outcomes;
16. 16 Facilitates community interaction programs;
17. 17 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
18. 18 Performs other duties as requested.

Specific Educational/ Vocational Requirements:

1. 1 High school degree or equivalent;
2. 2 Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies governing the facility.
3. 3 Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
