Job summary

Job Haines Home For Aged People is seeking an Activity Aide for part-time hours (30 per week, including every other weekend). The role supports the Activities Director and covers both the Nursing Unit and Assisted Living areas, with a start date of 8/11/2026.

You will help implement activities and document participation for residents in a respectful, caring environment. Qualifications include a high school diploma, LTC experience preferred, and English language proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate activities and work with other departments as necessary.
  • Transport residents to and from activities in a safe, effective, and courteous manner.
  • Maintain daily activity attendance records and assist with the monthly activity calendar.

ACTIVITY AIDE

STATUS: Part Time – 30 hours per week including every other weekend

Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Activities Director in implementing an ongoing program of activities designed to meet the interests, physical, mental, and psychosocial well being of each resident in accordance with interdisciplinary assessment, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, facility policy and procedure, and as directed by the Activity Director. The position covers both the Nursing Unit and the Assisted Living area at the discretion of the Activity Director and Administration and may require changes in scheduled work times due to department needs.

Functions
  • Research, create, and assist in implementing individualized and group activities based on residents' needs.
  • Implement reality orientation on a one‑to‑one basis.
  • Conduct room visits, assist in the implementation, and document in‑room activities for residents unable to leave their rooms.
  • Research, create, and assist in the implementation of diverse activities.
  • Research, create, and perform evening and weekend functions as necessary.
  • Identify resident activity interests, needs, and problems and forward information to the Activity Director as required.
  • Coordinate activities and work with other departments as necessary.
  • Transport residents to and from activities in a safe, effective, and courteous manner, including assistance in using the facility van.
  • Assist in training and supervising facility volunteers.
  • Maintain daily activity attendance records, contribute to the monthly activity calendar, and assist with other reports as requested by the Activity Director.
  • Maintain adequate supplies for activity programs and notify the Activity Director when supplies are low.
  • Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  • Be responsible for the safety of residents under your supervision.
  • Follow Resident Rights policies at all times, including the right to confidentiality.
  • Observe facility policy and procedure, especially regarding safety and infection control.
  • Review department policy and procedure annually and participate in recommended changes.
  • Participate in in‑service education and attend all required sessions.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as required.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employee's handbook.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use a prosthesis that enables these senses to function adequately to meet position requirements.
  • Must function independently and possess flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, families, personnel and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to transport residents in wheelchairs, geriatric chairs, and on food safely and in accordance with facility policy.
  • Must be able to lift and move residents, equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a recreation department in a LTC environment is required.
  • Compliance with applicable health laws and regulations, including those related to COVID‑19 and influenza vaccinations.
  • Special talents such as crafts or ability to play a musical instrument preferred.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthesis that enables these senses to function adequately to meet position requirements.
