Job summary

Stjohnsofalbertlea is seeking an Activity Aide to coordinate neighborhood events and provide supportive activities for residents. You will develop and implement individualized activity plans, lead or assist in group events, and ensure a safe, engaging environment within the facility. Strong English language skills and a genuine interest in working with the elderly are essential.

  • Must be pleasant and have a willingness to work with residents, families, volunteers and other staff and departments.
  • Must attend all required in-services and training.
  • Adhere to and assure that the Resident Bill of Rights is being respected.
  • Follow all safety guidelines set by SJLC.

Expected Hours: 40 hours per week

Shift: 8:00am-4:30pm

REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Genuine interest in working with the elderly and disabled.
  • Computer skills
Preferred Skills
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Previous long-term care experience is helpful.
  • Nursing Assistant certification is helpful.
  • Have or be willing to get a Commercial Driver’s License with a passenger endorsement to drive the bus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
  • Coordinate neighborhood events/activities.
  • Provide supportive activity on a one-to-one basis.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create a monthly calendar for assigned neighborhood.
  • Assess the residents’ activity preferences through activity assessments, social histories and cognitive and mood assessments.
  • Develop an activity care plan for each resident based on identified activity preferences.
  • Review and implement activities approach based on Care Plan. (This would include sensory stimulation, visiting one on one, reading to and writing for the residents and small and large group activities.)
  • Lead or co-lead small and large group activities/events
  • Inform and transport residents to and from activities/events. Not just within the building, also to events and destinations outside of SJLC, with the use of the bus or van.
  • Documentation of attendance and response of the resident after each activity.
  • Assess and report resident changes (physical or mental) to the Nurse in charge and the Community Activity Director.
  • Communicate with other departments/neighborhoods and volunteers for special activities/events requiring their participation.
  • Interact harmoniously with residents, families, volunteers, and other staff.
  • Any other instructions or directions given by the Community Activity Director.
PYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to push, bend, stoop, lift and carry. The job requires pushing wheelchairs, getting the residents on and off the buses and setting up both large and small group events.
