Job summary

Beechwood Homes in Getzville, NY, is seeking a Full-Time Activities Supervisor to plan, coordinate and lead recreation and enrichment programs for Residents. The role supports the well-being of Residents across physical, social and spiritual needs and supervises Recreation staff and Volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Provide Residents opportunities to meet social, psychological, intellectual, physical, spiritual and leisure needs.
• Initiate and promote participation in Recreation within the facility and community.
• Ensure safety of Residents under supervision and follow safety policies.
• Encourage social interaction through group activities; plan events and trips.
• Schedule programs and obtain necessary supplies and equipment.
• Foster religious and spiritual activities with chaplain interactions.
• Support intellectual development through literature, lectures and cultural events.
• Maintain attendance records and document progress in line with policies.
• Complete initial activities assessments for new and readmitted Residents.
• Coordinate virtual visits using Skype/Facetime/Zoom.
• Maintain supplies/inventory and safety of equipment.
• Supervise Recreation Leaders and Volunteers as needed.
• Assist in payroll and inter-department communication when Director is absent.
• Contribute to monthly activity calendars and auditorium scheduling.
• Transport Residents to Recreation programs and maintain confidentiality.

• Base Pay $18.50 - $20.00 / Hour

Beechwood Homes is looking for a Full-Time Activities Supervisor.

Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 9am-5pm

Hourly rate $18.50-$20.00- based on experience

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Activities/Volunteers, assists in planning and carrying out a program of recreation/activities and enrichment for the Residents of the facility to effect improvement in their physical, mental and social well-being by meeting the Residents’ basic needs as they pertain to Recreation.

RESPONSIBILTIES:

• 1. Provide Residents with the opportunity to fulfill his/her needs in the social, psychological, intellectual, physical, spiritual and leisure areas for the enhancement of dignity, self-respect and self-reliance.
• 2. Initiate and promote participation in Recreation within the facility and outside in the community.
• 3. Responsible for safety of Residents under his/her supervision. Complies with safety regulations and policies.
• 4. Encourage social communication among Residents through group recreation and activities. (e.g. plan parties, bingo, games, trips, etc.) Encourage Residents to assist in activity planning, and participate in scheduled programs
• 5. Schedules movies/various programs, and obtains the necessary supplies and/or equipment in advance.
• 6. Encourage Resident participation in religious recreation to fulfill basic spiritual needs through visits with the Chaplain, attendance at religious services/programs, spiritual reading material, and others.
• 7. Encourage intellectual/educational development through literature, lectures, movies, cultural events, etc.
• 8. Evaluate Residents’ interests. Establish goals with Resident input. Develop activity care plans to reflect resident preferences and customary routines, and complete appropriate documentation.
• 9. Maintain a record of Residents’ recreation attendance. Evaluate Residents’ participation during recreation. Write progress notes and chart them in accordance with facility policies and procedures. Attend Care Plan meetings.
• 10. Complete initial activities assessment for new admissions and re-admissions.
• 11. Facilitate virtual visits for Residents using Skype, Facetime, Zoom, etc. as needed.
• 12. Maintain supply and equipment inventory records.
• 13. Responsible for care and use of supplies and equipment.
• 15. Supervises Recreation Leaders, Recreation Aides and Volunteers as necessary.
• 16. Assists in evaluation of job performance of Recreation Leaders.
• 17. Prepare internal supply transfers and Purchase Order requisitions.
• 18. Assists in development and preparation of a monthly calendar of events in advance of the next month, to finalize with the Director of Activities/Volunteers.
• 19. Schedules auditorium use. Prepares set ups for auditorium. Sends to Plant Operations monthly.
• 20. Sets up and coordinates Resident use of digital media devices (for YouTube, music, etc.)
• 21. Transports Resident to and from Recreation programs.
• 22. Maintains CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent facility, staff and resident care information.
• 23. Assures that Residents right to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to file complaints, are followed.
• 24. Assures that work/assignment areas are neat and clean and that office equipment is covered before the office is closed at the end of the work day.
• 26. In absence of the Director of Activities, the Recreation Supervisor will perform the following duties: complete the departmental payroll and facilitate needed communication between the Recreation Department and other departments/disciplines.
• 27. Assist residents at meal times and/or setting up trays.

OTHER RELATED COMPETENCIES:

• 1. Perform other duties as directed by Director of Activities/Volunteers.
• 2. May supervise volunteers assigned for regularly scheduled programs or specials.
• 3. Must be able to work with other departments to meet the needs of Residents.
• 4. Follows all established safety procedures and precautions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Within your scope of practice and in accordance with the Resident Care Plan, assists in ambulation with/without supportive aides and transfers into wheelchairs/chairs. Pushes resident wheelchairs across facility to and from activities. Involved with Residents, family members, staff, visitors, etc., under all conditions/circumstances. May encounter emotionally upset Residents, family members. Communicates with nursing staff, and other departments. Required to be on constant alert for possible injuries to Residents. Moving/lifting boxes, chairs, tables, decorations and Resident belongings, not to exceed 10 lbs. Cleaning of Recreation equipment/supplies (e.g. ceramic tools) as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory experience is preferred. Basic computer skills with Windows operating systems. Experience with EMR preferred. Aptitude and some training in arts and crafts. Ability to plan and organize activities. Must be able to assume a leadership role and promote maximum participation in recreation while using available resources. Sincere desire to work with the aged. Have an understanding of the social, psychological and recreational needs of the aged as well as other types of Residents in long term care facilities. Must have a clean, valid NYS Driver's License.
