Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Degree in Recreational Therapy from an accredited program preferred.
• Eligible for NC license as OT/OTA or NC certification as recreation therapist/RTC, or qualified in activities program management.
• Long Term Care experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills and ability to multitask with residents and staff.
• Experience with MDS, progress notes, and participation records.
• Valid NC Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Plan, promote, and lead individual and group activities for residents.
• Inform new patients and families about the Activity Program.
• Complete an Activities Assessment per policies.
• Conduct indoor and outdoor recreational activities, education, and exercise.
• Supervise scheduling and posting of events to encourage participation.
• Oversee Volunteer Program, including training and placement.

Job Description

• Plans, promotes, and leads individual and group activities based on needs and interests of the residents.
• Informs new patients and families about the Activity Program of the Facility and unit.
• Completes an Activities Assessment on each designated resident according to documentation policies and procedures.
• Conducts recreational activities, both indoor and outdoor.
• Conducts educational, creative, expressive activities and exercise.
• Supervises scheduling and posting of all events and programs in a manner to encourage participation and enthusiasm among residents.
• Supervises Volunteer Program, responsible for all aspects of training and placing volunteers.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prefer a degree in Recreational Therapy from an accredited program.
• Eligible for a N.C. license as an occupational therapist or assistant therapist, or eligible for N.C. Certification as a recreation therapist or assistant therapist, or someone who has completed an approved 36-hour or longer course in activities program management, or an individual receiving at least four hours consultation per month from a qualified occupational therapist or recreational therapist.
• Previous Activities Director, and/or Long Term Care experience preferred.
• Willing to work and cooperate well with other employees.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to multitask alongside residents and staff.
• Experience in documentation with MDS, progress notes, participation records, etc.
• Ability to work well under pressure and use supplies economically.
• Valid NC Driver’s License.
