Qualifications

• Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional with a licensed/registered status by the practicing state.
• Must be eligible for TRS or activities professional certification by a recognized accrediting body after 1990.
• Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one full-time in therapeutic activities.
• Alternative: qualified occupational therapist or assistant; or completed a state-approved training course.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, supervises, and directs all activities of the Activities Department.
• Develops and implements a comprehensive activities program for residents’ social, psychosocial, and therapeutic needs.
• Coordinates and schedules individual and group activities for diverse experiences.
• Monitors and evaluates program impact and revises as needed.
• Ensures residents have cognitive, recreational, and ADL activities daily.
• Oversees transportation to activities and collaborates with the care team.

Responsibilities:

• Plans, organizes, supervises, and directs all administrative and operational activities of the Activities Department
• Develops and implements a comprehensive activities program that meets the social, psychosocial, and therapeutic needs of residents
• Coordinates and schedules activities, both individual and group, to ensure a diverse and engaging experience for residents
• Monitors and evaluates the response to programs to determine if they meet the assessed needs of residents, and makes revisions as necessary
• Ensures that each resident is offered at least one cognitive activity, two recreational activities, and three ADL activities daily
• Oversees the transportation of residents to social activities programs
• Collaborates with the care team to ensure that activities are tailored to the unique requirements and skills of each resident

Requirements:

• Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional with a licensed or registered status, if applicable, by the state in which practicing
• Must be eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or
• Must have 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or
• Must be a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or
• Must have completed a training course approved by the State
