Job summary

Aspire Senior Living Carthage is seeking an Activities Director to lead a resident-focused activity program that enhances quality of life through social, cognitive, and therapeutic activities. You will supervise staff, coordinate events, and partner with departments to integrate plans of care.

Ideal candidates bring experience in senior living, strong leadership, and a passion for enriching the lives of older adults while ensuring compliance and quality resident engagement.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in activities, recreation, therapeutic recreation, senior living, long-term care, or healthcare.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with program development, scheduling, and budget management is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with residents, families, employees, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Creative, energetic, organized, and passionate about enriching the lives of older adults.
  • Understanding of the cognitive and physical changes associated with aging and dementia.
  • Ability to adapt activities to residents with varying abilities and needs.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation, scheduling, and communication.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced long-term care environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate recreational, social, cultural, therapeutic, and special-event programming based on residents’ interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Provide leadership, scheduling, training, and support to activity assistants and volunteers.
  • Assess residents’ interests, cognitive abilities, physical capabilities, and psychosocial needs to support individualized programming.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Therapy, Dietary, Social Services, and other departments to incorporate activities into residents’ overall plans of care.
  • Plan holiday celebrations, special events, entertainment, outings, theme days, and other resident experiences.
  • Develop and manage the Activities Department budget, supplies, equipment, and resources.
  • Build relationships with local organizations, schools, churches, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Maintain required activity assessments, participation records, progress notes, and other documentation.
  • Ensure programming complies with applicable regulations, resident rights, safety requirements, and facility policies.
  • Participate in resident council meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and resident satisfaction efforts.
  • Advocate for resident preferences, interests, dignity, independence, and quality of life.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

Aspire Senior Living Carthage is seeking a creative, energetic, and compassionate Activities Director to lead our resident activity program.

The Activities Director is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing engaging, person-centered activities that enhance residents’ quality of life. This position promotes socialization, cognitive stimulation, emotional well-being, and meaningful resident engagement while leading activity staff and volunteers.
