Job summary

Encore at Parkside is seeking a PRN Activity Assistant to support the ongoing development and execution of a diverse activity program that meets residents' physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

You will assist with planning and coordinating activities, prepare the monthly calendar and newsletter, supervise volunteers, and help move residents to and from recreational areas while preserving safety and dignity.

Qualifications

• High School degree required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, coordinating activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outside trips, special events, and one-to-one visits.
• Assist with preparing and distributing the monthly calendar and newsletter.
• Assist with purchasing supplies for activities as needed.
• Distribute mail daily to residents.
• Move residents to and from recreational areas.
• Announce scheduled activities over the intercom at least fifteen minutes prior to the activity.
• Direct volunteers activities, enlist their support and coordinate their efforts; provide training and supervision of volunteers.
• Maintain accurate documentation of resident's activity attendance.
• Plan and coordinate activities in the absence of the Activity Coordinator.
• Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
• Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

OUALIFICATTONS:

High School degree required.

One year experience in a social or recreational program in a licensed health care setting preferred.

Background in music, art, drama, and dance therapy preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting for approximately 60% of work day.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.occasionally.
• Must be able to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs.in gerichairs and/or wheelchairs.
• Must be able to read and speak English, hear, and be able to sit and walk intermittently throughout the day.
• May be exposed to communicable diseases, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses, industrial and household chemicals, offensive odors and combative behavior.
