Job Description
The Life Enrichment Activities Assistant is responsible for supporting and assisting the Life Enrichment Director in designing, creating, initiating, facilitating, and implementing a wide variety of multi-level meaningful recreational and educational programs for our Independent Living (IL), and Assisted Living (AL) neighborhoods. The Activities Assistant / Driver is responsible for supporting meaningful, engaging resident programming while also providing safe and reliable transportation for residents. This position is approximately 50% resident activities and programming and 50% resident transportation and driving. The role supports Harmony’s dimensions of wellness, signature programs, person-centered interests, community outings, appointments, and other transportation needs.
Responsibilities
- Activities & Resident Engagement – Approximately 50% Assists with developing, planning, and implementing monthly activities and programs based on the dimensions of wellness, Harmony signature programs, and person-centered resident interests. Leads and facilitates engaging resident programs and activities throughout the day. Assists with surveying and interviewing residents to complete Resident Life Profiles and identify their interests, talents, preferences, and satisfaction with community programming. Partners with the Life Enrichment Director, Harmony Square Director, and program team to plan calendars, events, outings, supplies, and activities. Develops positive relationships with residents and families to encourage participation and promote resident and family satisfaction. Assists with Resident Council meetings, volunteer programs, program documentation, and daily activity communications. Prepares and maintains activity areas, supplies, equipment, and materials. Assists with community events, special programs, and resident outings.
- Resident Transportation & Driving – Approximately 50% Safely transports residents in the community vehicle to and from shopping trips, grocery trips, leisure activities, community outings, appointments, and other destinations. Provides transportation for scheduled resident activities and off‑site events. May transport residents to physician and other medical appointments as directed. Assists residents safely in and out of the vehicle and with mobility equipment as needed. Ensures residents are comfortable and safe throughout transportation and outings. Operates the community vehicle in accordance with all company safety policies and applicable regulations. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized community vehicle. Assists with the community vehicle maintenance and inspection schedule. Completes required transportation documentation and vehicle logs. Supports and coordinates off‑site outings, ensuring safe transportation and supervision of participating residents. Provides friendly, courteous, and professional service to residents while driving.
Requirements
- High School Diploma and/or relevant experience, subject to state requirements.
- 1–3 years of experience in senior living, activities, recreation, transportation, hospitality, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
- Must be comfortable driving a community passenger vehicle and transporting senior residents on a regular basis.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Flexible, consistent, imaginative, and engaging, with a passion for working with seniors.
- Experience organizing, conducting, and planning programs and activities preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, walk, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
