Job summary

Kids for the Future in Towson, MD is seeking an Activity Assistant for a part-time role (11am-7pm, two days weekly). The position pays $18.00-$19.00 per hour and requires a high school diploma with background in activity programming for the elderly preferred.

You will plan and coordinate activities, supervise volunteers, transport residents as needed, and maintain records. A valid Class C license and English proficiency are required; driving and aging-care knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years’ experience in recreational/activity programming for the elderly preferred.
• Possess a valid class C driver's license.
• Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Knowledge of a wide range of arts/crafts and audio-visual equipment.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Aged and the aging process.
• MVA record to demonstrate clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and implement activity programs including remotivating therapy and reality orientation.
• Work effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, visitors and supervisors.
• Treat residents with compassion, warmth and understanding.
• Plan and coordinate some domiciliary and comprehensive care activities.
• Procure materials and services required for activity programs.
• Care for and maintain recreational facilities and equipment.
• Maintain record of resident attendance at activities.
• Implement special events.
• Publicize events and activities.
• Provide for resident transportation to and from activities.
• Coordinate scheduling of meeting rooms.
• Schedule and drive van for various activities.
• Attend mandatory in-service training sessions.
• Instruct volunteers and staff in the proper use of arts/crafts and audio-visual equipment.
• Supervise volunteers and staff assisting with programs.
