Job summary

Ocean Park Healthcare Center is seeking an Activities Assistant to support resident engagement at our Santa Monica facility. The role focuses on planning and leading activities for senior residents, while ensuring safety and compliance with infection control guidelines.

Ideal candidates are warm, energetic, and capable of teaching and supervising volunteers. Training will be provided, and the role emphasizes teamwork and reliable daily activity coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all assigned activities on time under the Activities Director's guidance.
  • Be responsive to residents' needs.
  • Maintain daily records of activity participation for group and individual activities.
  • Ensure safety is the top priority during activities and interactions.
  • Complete duties within the designated time frame and follow facility procedures.
  • Dress in appropriate business attire and cooperate with staff and volunteers.
  • Prepare daily activity programs under supervision and provide direction to volunteers.
  • Maintain and update lists for the Activities Director and attend necessary trainings.

Job description

This position doesn't require any specific experience or education, but the candidate must be a warm, friendly, energetic person.


REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Interested in working with senior adults.

  2. In good physical and emotional health.

  3. Sensitive to the needs, interests, and abilities of the senior adults.

  4. Relates well to people and maintains effective working relationships.

  5. Must possess a sense of humor, friendliness, patience, and flexibility; has initiative and imagination.

  6. Has manual dexterity.

  7. Must physically be able to set up individual activities to include assembling tables, chairs, lifting supplies, push wheelchairs, climbing ladders

  8. Ability to motivate and stimulate.

  9. Ability to teach, organize and supervise others.

  10. Ability to assume responsibility for assigned duties.

  11. Accept training and supervision.

  12. Be responsible for assigned activities.

  13. Certification and/or attending classes preferable.

  14. Medical terminology preferred.

  15. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written form.


REPORTING:

The Activities Assistant reports to the Activities Director.


JOB DUTIES:


  1. Conducts all assigned scheduled activities on time and within the framework and guidelines of the Activities Director.

  2. Be responsive to the needs of all residents.

  3. Maintain daily records of activity participation, both group and individual.

  4. While performing activities or interacting with residents, safety will always be of the utmost concern.

  5. All assigned duties must be completed within the designated time frame.

  6. Will comply with all regulations and operating procedures of the facility.

  7. Will dress in appropriate business attire.

  8. Cooperate with staff and volunteers at all times.

  9. Prepare daily activity programs under Activities Director's supervision.

  10. Provide volunteers direction under Activities Director's supervision.

  11. Maintain and update lists for Activities Director as requested.

  12. Attend all necessary in-services.

  13. Direct all resident needs to the appropriate departments.

  14. Discuss needs and concerns with Activities Director.

  15. Assist with activity calendars and keep bulletin boards current.

  16. Adhere to Infection Control Policies such as wearing gloves while performing food activities.

  17. All activity supplies and equipment will be kept and maintained in proper order.

  18. Leave activity area neat and clean and in proper order.

  19. Accept other assignments at the request of the Activities Director or Administrator.
