We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Activities Assistant to join our team at Hill View Continuing Care Retirement Community in Portsmouth, OH. As an Activities Assistant, you will play a vital role in planning, preparing, and delivering engaging recreational, social, physical, cognitive, cultural, and spiritual programs for our residents.
Assist with implementing the facility's activity calendar and daily programs in accordance with resident interests, assessed needs, abilities, and care plans
Lead or assist with group activities such as games, exercise, music, crafts, discussions, sensory programs, celebrations, community events, and other therapeutic recreation
Provide one-to-one activities and room visits for residents who are unable, unwilling, or prefer not to participate in group programming
Invite, escort, and safely transport residents to and from activities; verify appropriate seating, mobility devices, positioning, and supervision
Prepare activity areas, equipment, refreshments, and supplies; maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces and return areas to order after use
Adapt programs, instructions, and materials for residents with dementia, cognitive impairment, sensory loss, limited mobility, communication barriers, or other individualized needs
Observe resident participation, mood, behavior, and response to activities; promptly report significant changes, concerns, injuries, or unusual events to the appropriate nurse or supervisor
Maintain activity supplies and equipment; notify the supervisor of supply needs, damage, or safety concerns
Protect resident rights, privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and freedom from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and retaliation; immediately report suspected violations as required by law and facility policy
Follow infection prevention, hand hygiene, standard precautions, emergency preparedness, fire safety, fall prevention, and workplace safety practices
Provide services without discrimination and support residents' cultural, religious, and personal choices
Attend orientation, in-service education, staff meetings, and required competency training
Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned
High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Experience working with older adults, individuals with disabilities, dementia care, recreation, hospitality, or long-term care preferred
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate, follow instructions, and complete documentation; additional language skills are valued
Must meet all applicable pre-employment, health screening, background check, and exclusion-screening requirements
Must maintain any required driver's license and insurability when assigned to drive a facility vehicle
Warm, patient, and dependable approach with genuine respect for older adults
Ability to engage residents with varied interests, cognitive abilities, functional levels, and communication needs
Creativity, organization, and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities
