Job summary

Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation is seeking an Activities Assistant to plan, coordinate and evaluate resident activities in a compassionate senior care setting.

You will encourage participation, escort residents on outings, and assist with trip registrations while maintaining supplies and supporting the Resident Program Director.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent related work experience.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience or related experience performing activity-related duties.
  • Ability to assume leadership role in the activities department in the absence of the Activities Director.
  • Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical or sensory disabilities.

Essential Functions:
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and evaluating resident activities.
  • Encourages resident participation in programs and activities.
  • Escorts residents on activities away from the property as assigned.
  • Assists with the registration of residents for trips and programs.
  • Conducts various activities at the direction of the Resident Program Director.
  • Maintains necessary activity supplies, which may include outside purchasing.
  • Assists in the surveying and interviewing of residents to determine interests, talents and resident satisfaction.
  • Maintains general observation of residents and shares appropriate information with staff.
  • Follows departmental budget guidelines.
  • Attends all required training, in-service, and staff meetings.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers.
  • Adheres to all Company policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent related work experience.

  • Moderate physical activity:
    • Requires handling of average-weight objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
    • Repetitive standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
    • Repetitive bending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.
    • Sitting for more than two (2) hours at a time.
    • May require consistent computer work with repetitive typing and concentrating on a computer screen.
    • Physical ability to travel to sites.
