Job summary

Life Care Centers of America is seeking an Activities Assistant to support the Director of Activities in planning, organizing, and directing quality activities for patients. The role focuses on meeting recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs in line with Life Care standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; geriatrics experience is preferred, and a valid driver’s license with a clean record is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience with geriatrics is preferred (not mandatory).
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Arts/crafts/music proficiency is preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when warranted.
  • Knowledgeable of post‑acute care laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to implement and interpret department policies and procedures.
  • Competency in patient rights, safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate quality activity programs (entertainment, exercise, relaxation, education).
  • Chart patient progress and behavior in the record.
  • Escort patients to and from activities.
  • Visit patients unable to participate in group activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service with a positive attitude.
  • Assist in patient evacuation when needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance and reliability.
  • Collaborate on an interdisciplinary team.

Position Summary

The Activities Assistant assists the Director of Activities in planning, organizing, developing, and directing quality activities for patients, ensuring that the recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of each patient is met in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Prior experience with geriatrics preferred
Specific Job Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license in current State with satisfactory driving record per Life Care standards
  • Demonstrated proficiency in arts/crafts/music is preferred
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Knowledgeable of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post acute care facility
  • Ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department
  • Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: patient rights, and safety and sanitation
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
  • Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training
Essential Functions
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs (includes entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education)
  • Appropriately and descriptively chart patient progress and behavior
  • Escort patients to and from activities
  • Make regular in room visits to patients uninterested or unable to participate in group activities
  • Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
  • Assist in the evacuation of patients
  • Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance
  • Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
  • Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language
