Job summary

Life Care Centers of America seeks an Activities Assistant to support the Director of Activities in planning and directing quality activities for patients. The role focuses on meeting recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs in compliance with Life Care standards and applicable laws.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with geriatrics experience preferred. A valid state driver’s license and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience with geriatrics preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license in current State with satisfactory driving record per Life Care standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in arts/crafts/music is preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing post-acute care facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs (entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education).
  • Chart patient progress and behavior descriptively.
  • Escort patients to and from activities.
  • Make in-room visits to patients not participating in group activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude toward patients.
  • Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
  • Communicate and function on an interdisciplinary team.

Position Summary

The Activities Assistant assists the Director of Activities in planning, organizing, developing, and directing quality activities for patients, ensuring that the recreational, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs of each patient is met in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Education, Experience, And Licensure Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Prior experience with geriatrics preferred
Specific Job Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license in current State with satisfactory driving record per Life Care standards
  • Demonstrated proficiency in arts/crafts/music is preferred
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Knowledgeable of practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in the post acute care facility
  • Ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department
  • Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: patient rights, and safety and sanitation
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures
  • Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training
Essential Functions
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs (includes entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and education)
  • Appropriately and descriptively chart patient progress and behavior
  • Escort patients to and from activities
  • Make regular in room visits to patients uninterested or unable to participate in group activities
  • Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients
  • Assist in the evacuation of patients
  • Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance
  • Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
  • Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language
