Job summary

InnovAge is seeking an Activities Assistant to help implement recreational activities tailored to frail and elderly participants at our center in Albuquerque, NM.

Responsibilities include assisting in groups and 1:1 activities, assisting with daily living tasks, and supporting lunch service under the Recreation Therapist. Prior experience with seniors and bilingual abilities are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience with frail or elderly individuals.
• Preferred: experience designing and implementing activities for seniors; bilingual in Spanish, Russian, Punjabi or Hmong.

Responsibilities

• Assist with development and implementation of recreational activities.
• Assess and reassess participants' functional status with Recreation Therapist.
• Assist participants with non-skilled activities of daily living.
• Lead or assist in large groups, small groups, 1:1s and individual activities.
• Prepare and clean up activities by storing supplies and tidying areas.
• Attend meetings regarding participant care with Recreation Therapist.
• Assist Day Center staff with lunch service and participant arrival as approved by ADHC Supervisor.
• Order supplies for department and maintain equipment.
• Complete assigned charting and reporting as directed by Recreation Therapist.

Activities Assistant

The Activities Assistant is responsible for assisting with the implementation of activities for participants that are tailored to the needs and limitations of the frail and elderly.

• Assists with the development and implementation of recreational activities that meet the interests, needs and capabilities of participants under the supervision of Recreation Therapist.
• Assesses and re‑assesses participants’ functional status in relationship to participation in recreational activities, in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist.
• Assists participants with non-skilled activities of daily living.
• Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups 1:1’s and individual activities such as exercise, arts and crafts, games and current events. Assists in the organizing of special events and outings, in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist.
• Performs preparation and cleanup of activities by putting away supplies and straightening out activity areas.
• Attends meetings regarding participant care as assigned by the Recreation Therapist.
• Assists Day Center staff in providing lunch service and assistance with arriving participants, as appropriate and approved by the ADHC Supervisor.
• Orders supplies for department and maintains department equipment, within reason and ability of position.
• Completes assigned charting and reporting as assigned by Recreation Therapist.

REQUIRED

• High School diploma or GED
• A minimum of one year experience working with the frail or elderly.

PREFERRED

• Experience working with the elderly designing and implementing activities
• Bi-lingual-Spanish, Russian, Punjabi or Hmong
