Job description

Overview

Job Summary: Assists with planning and organizing activities for all residents and assists in the maintenance of the Activities Department.

Responsibilities

Performs the following duties listed and others as required to assure quality of life for the residents. This list does not include all duties required but to serve as a basis of expectations. Duties and responsibilities may be added or modified at any time.

  • Through planned activities programs and other intervention will encourage residents to achieve their highest level of psycho social interaction.
  • Under direction of the Resident Programs Coordinator will implement individual interventions as outlined in the residents plan of care.
  • Fills out and places activity calendars on 1st and 2nd floor units at first of each month.
  • Orders supplies for cooking club, special events and parties.
  • Complete assigned resident\'s activity assessments.
  • Run daily activity programs, transporting residents to and from the activity.
  • Makes announcements twice daily of day, time, place, date, weather and daily activities.
  • Records in interdisciplinary notes significant events or writes in behavior log, if needed, and reports to Resident Programs Coordinator.
  • Assists in resident dining, breakfast and dinner meals.
  • Places weekly activity calendars on resident doors every Monday.
  • Cleans animal cages, waters plants, and feeds animals.
  • Responsible for maintaining established activity standards and policies of the facility.
  • Responsible for meeting Federal and State requirements.
  • Responsible to keep the working area clean, orderly, safe and in good working order.
  • Reports observations concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunction to Director.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
Working Conditions
  • Nursing home setting.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs. when needed.
  • Work in a clean, well lighted and ventilated areas. On feet most of the day. Working with residents throughout the day. Occasional field trips in and out of doors.
Qualifications

Must have a genuine interest in geriatrics and assuring quality activities for residents. Ability to adapt to frequent changes in routine.

Experience

Two years or more experience in a medical, geriatric or related field preferably in activities or nursing department.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to walk, climb stairs, push and/or pull equipment and residents as required. Prolonged standing or walking. Able to maintain high energy level throughout an eight hour shift. Bends, lifts, carries, pushes and pulls various equipment and residents throughout the work day. This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions described. These functions are not limited to the following requirements.
