Job description

The Microsoft Azure Active Directory (AD) Subject Matter Expert (SME) should possess extensive knowledge, skills, and experience in designing, implementing, configuring, and managing MS Azure Active Directory (AD) environments.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.
  • Security clearance required; process takes approximately 2‑4 weeks.
  • Hybrid (remote/onsite) work arrangement; onsite presence at least once per week.
  • Candidate must be local to the Washington DC area.
Qualifications and Experience
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Enterprise Engineering experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills for AD infrastructure, replication, authentication, DNS, Group Policy, and performance tuning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.
  • Leadership experience and ability to lead a team of engineering professionals.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Microsoft Azure Active Directory Lead for assigned ATR engineering resources.
  • Design AD architectures tailored to organizational needs, including domain structures, forests, trusts, and OU hierarchies.
  • Deploy and configure Active Directory environments from scratch or migrate existing ones, setting up domain controllers, DNS infrastructure, sites, and replication for high availability.
  • Recommend and advise on organization‑wide system improvements, optimization, and modernization efforts related to AD.
  • Research, diagnose, troubleshoot, resolve, and report IT issues while leading a skilled engineering team.
  • Design and engineer the Azure AD environment to meet mission‑specific requirements for ATR customers.
  • Provide high‑level functional systems analysis, design, integration, documentation, and implementation advice on moderately complex problems requiring advanced AD SME knowledge.
  • Create, manage, and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security policies and automate administrative tasks.
  • Maintain deep understanding of Identity and Access Management principles and practices within AD, including user and group management, authentication mechanisms, access control, and single sign‑on solutions such as Zero‑Trust Architecture.
  • Implement security best practices and compliance requirements for AD, securing privileged accounts, applying security controls, auditing changes, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
